- OUR MISSION -
The Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) was established in August of 1948 to create a safe and tranquil environment for the students, teachers and staff of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The men and women of the LASPD have accepted this duty with an unyielding commitment that has not wavered for over 5 decades. This dedication to public safety is the standard for the 5th largest law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County and the largest school district police department in the nation. 24 hours a day, the Los Angeles School Police Department is responsible for providing police services to:
The LASPD deploys 327 sworn personnel in a variety of ranks;
The LASPD establishes a diverse deployment of its resources, maximizing the department's ability to provide the most effective and modern police services possible. Amongst these resources is a variety of assignments that officers, upon successful completion of the police academy and probation, are eligible to apply for (some assignments require a minimum 2 to 5 years of field duty):
