Rule Title: OBSERVANCE OF CERTAIN EVENTS

Rule Text: All schools shall observe the events commemorated by the following holidays and special days, when such holidays and days occur during a school term, by holding suitable exercises or by classroom discussion. The holidays and special days are specified under Education Code Sections 37220, 37221, 3722l.5, or 45206.5. Other special days shall continue to be observed as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or by action of the Board of Education, including, but not limited to, the month of February as African American History Month; May 5, Cinco de Mayo and September 16, Mexican Independence Day as "Celebrations of Mexican History and Culture;" and October 12, Columbus Day In addition, all schools may observe those holidays and special days presented in the Los Angeles Unified School District publication Observance of Special Annual Events. OBSERVANCES MANDATED BY STATE EDUCATION CODE SECTIONS 37220, 37221, 37221.5 AND 45206.5.
